A Calatogue of poses - the many 'faces' of the Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) Canberra, Australia
The sacred Kingfisher is a common breeding summer migrant in southeastern Australia. Here we see a couple of young birds on a hot summers' day. Depending on what they are doing they can appear very differently to the viewer. Filmed at Jerrabomberra Wetlands Reserve in Canberra

A drought refuge for ducks, the town of Bungendore, NSW, Australia
Depending on regional drought conditions, the farm dams and sewerage treatment plant in and around the town of Bungendore, NSW, northeast of Canberra, in southeastern Australia can at times host large numbers of many species of ducks. Filmed mostly during the winter of 2017 the film shows the importance of such places to these birds and the positive role that sympathetic and mindful landholders can have.
In this film nine species of ducks can be seen, basically all the non-diving species of ducks that can be reasonably expected in southeastern Australia. These include Plumed Whistling Ducks at the limit of their range here and the endangered and rare Freckled Duck. The other species are Australian Wood Duck, Pacific Black Duck, Grey Teal, Chestnut Teal, Australian Shelduck, Australasian Shoveler and Pink-eared Duck. Also some Magpie Larks and curious cows!

Apostlebird (Strauthidea cinerea, Coracoracidae: Australian mud nest builders)
The Apostlebird is a familiar inhabitant of woodland and agricultural districts, especially inland, from SE South Australia to much of Queensland, with a separate population in the Northern Territory. In the SE NSW it occurs away from the coast in drier country a couple of hours west of Canberra. Apostlebirds live in close groups with a dominant male, several females and 'helpers' (younger birds from previous broods). Several females may lay eggs in the mud nest and all birds look after the young. Always a noisy engaging bird. One of two members of the Coracoracidae - a uniquely Australian bird family, the other species being the White-winged Chough see:- vimeo.com/122228054

The Australian Pipit is widely distributed in open country in Australia, including the tops of our highest mountains. Large areas of mown grass along roadsides are attractive to this species, as here.
